Celebrating the Bard’s Birthday
Burns birthday was celebrated in style on Thursday 25th January 2018 when Lodge Sir George Cathcart No. 617 and Lodge Newton Mearns No. 1706 combined for the first time to host a joint Burns Supper.
The event attracted around sixty Brethren and guests to Busby Masonic Hall – home of 617 – where they were wined, dined and entertained in traditional Burns Night manner.
The haggis was piped in and suitably addressed by PSPGM Bro. Willie Fleming who later proposed an informative and entertaining toast to the Immortal Memory.
Musician Dougie Johnston and pipers Alan Caskie and Davy Smith provided songs and music with MC. Bro. Graham McNicol, orchestrating the flow of the evening.
Bro. Stuart Brodie entertained the guests with his full-bodied version of Tam O’Shanter and a night-gowned Bro. Martin Cassidy performed Holy Willie’s Prayer in devout fashion.
There was a toast to The Lassies by Bro, Ian McNicol with a reply by RWM of 617 Bro. Alex McAleer.
RWM of Lodge Newton Mearns Bro. John Howarth toasted the Artists and thanked the Brethren and guests who had made the first joint Burns Supper organised by both Lodges such a success.
